BetMGM, a market-leading entertainment, and iGaming operator announced that they are the official sports betting sponsor of the Boston Red Sox. This becomes BetMGM’s first collaboration with a Massachusetts sports team and the Boston Red Sox’s first sports betting partnership. The announcement comes days before Massachusetts goes live with mobile sports betting.

“The Red Sox are one of baseball’s most beloved organizations and we’re thrilled to bring BetMGM to their passionate fans,” said Matt Prevost, Chief Revenue Officer, BetMGM. “We look forward to working together to elevate the gameday experience in Boston.”

The iconic Green Monster will feature BetMGM signage at Fenway Park at the ballpark’s left field wall.  In addition, BetMGM will provide a suite at the ballpark for  VIP fan experiences that includes access to batting practice with premium seats, alum appearances, and ceremonial first pitches.

“The Boston Red Sox are proud to partner with BetMGM as we prepare to enter a new era of professional sports betting in Massachusetts,” said Troup Parkinson, Executive Vice President, Partnerships, Boston Red Sox. “Given our strong relationship with MGM Resorts, BetMGM was the clear choice to become the first sports betting partner of the club, and we look forward to them offering sports betting opportunities to our fans in a safe and responsible manner.”

With online sports betting launching at the end of this week in Massachusetts, BetMGM’s partnership with Boston Red Sox comes with good timing. As a result, they are expanding their Massachusetts footprint, including a BetMGM Sportsbook based in Springfield, Massachusettes. The sportsbook includes a 45-foot LED viewing wall along with 18 different kiosks situated throughout the gaming area.

Massachusetts has the potential to compete with New York, New Jersey, and Ohio in the number of handles; PlayMA projects the handle in Massachusetts to be $5 billion. In addition, PlayMA reported that 80% of Massachusetts sports betting would occur online. Massachusetts has a tax rate of 20% which is more generous than New York’s 51%. Further,  March is one of the biggest sports betting months, including spring baseball, NASCAR, College basketball conference tournaments, and March Madness; it looks as if Massachusetts could set some sports betting records in March; stay tuned.
